Editorial standards

Orbit & Wonder is an independent astronomy website. It explains the work of researchers, missions and observatories, and keeps apart what a source states and what we conclude.

Primary sources

Stories link to their primary scientific sources, such as papers and announcements from the teams and agencies involved. Important claims link to their source where they are made. Preliminary results are described as preliminary.

What we test ourselves

When we write about an app, a tool or a dataset, we try it ourselves where we can and describe what we did in a "How we checked" section. When we could not test something, the article says so. We do not describe equipment as tested unless we used it.

Images

Every image is credited to its maker or the institution that released it. Diagrams and charts we make ourselves are labelled as such, so they are not mistaken for observations.

Corrections

Material corrections are made in the affected article with a visible note and an updated date.

Advertising and affiliate links

Advertising placements and affiliate links are labelled. They never decide what is covered or how it is judged.
